A-Cold-Wall* is continuing its history of stark Nike sneakers with this weeks release of two Nike Air Max Pluses. Rechristened as the TN98, the kicks take on a number of slight changes that fit in with ACW’s brutalist sensibilities. The molded, full-grain leather upper, available in either black “Onyx” or white “Stone,” is designed to “age and patina with wear” and gives the silhouette’s signature exoskeleton a new look intended to stand out or blend in based on different light conditions. Nike‘s Swoosh and a series of small squares have been laser-etched directly into the upper, while the heel has been rendered in a translucent, ridged TPU with marks including ACW’s name and the shoe’s SKU number visible underneath adding to the industrialist theme. A dual-branded tongue is both transparent and reactive to UV light. Although Nike and a A-Cold-Wall* teamed up for a steady series of releases beginning in 2017, this week’s launch marks the first time they’ve linked up since 2019.
