A new pair of sneakers are high up on my wish list right now. I suppose this isn't surprising since it's practically the only shoe style I'm living in during this time of sheltering in place (aside from my cozy slippers, of course).
Luckily, there are plenty of cool styles out there to help jazz up my sweats and leggings right now. To get inspired, I scoured Instagram high and low to see what sneakers our favorite celebrities and fashion girls have been wearing lately.
There's no doubt that retro- and vintage-inspired silhouettes are reigning supreme right now (which we're seeing styled with throwback tube socks and sweats). Even though these create a very '70s-style look, they actually feel very current.
From colorful Nike Daybreaks to neutral-hued New Balances, scroll below for some of the coolest styles I've spotted on the fashion set and shop them below.
Retro-inspired New Balance sneakers are unquestionably the most popular brand I've spotted on Instagram and celebrities this season. From the cool 990 sneakers loved by Kaia Gerber to the under-$100 retro 574 sneakers, there are plenty of trendy styles that range from neutrals to colorful neons that will give your feed a cool-girl touch.
The Reebok Classics and the Rebook Club Cs are dominating as this year's must-have white-sneaker styles. The vintage silhouettes are a favorite among the A-list (Gigi Hadid is a big fan), and the street style set have been styling them with everything from relaxed denim to cycling shorts.
Fashion girls can't seem to get enough of the vintage-inspired styles from Nike. We've spotted three styles, in particular, blowing up: the throwback Nike Daybreaks (Nike's 1979 marathon running shoe) that come in a myriad of cool, retro colors, the '70s high-top Nike Blazers (seen on our favorite influencers all over the 'gram), and colorful '80s Air Jordans, which we saw styled with pretty tweed Chanel dresses on the street style set during fashion week. All of these prove that oldies really are goodies.
At this point, Converse Chuck Taylors have become a classic. It's the high-top styles, in particular, that have been dominating (loved by Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner, Diane Kruger to name but a few). We've also recently spotted the newest chunky platform iterations on the streets during fashion month.
Up next, the surprising 2020 shoe trends we'll be tring (and five we're passing on).
